October is conference season in Chicago; therefore we strongly suggest booking rooms as early as possible!

Getting around Chicago

There are several methods for transportation around the city, including the El, buses, and taxis. A shuttle bus will be provided during the beginning and end of each day at the conference, and will provide stops at the City Centre Hotel, the youth hostel, and the Chicago Cultural Center.


This is a guide to transportation between some of the main points of interest for the conference.  Here is some important information about the different modes of transportation:


Alternatively, the Continental Airport Express offers shuttle service from both Ohare and Midway airports to the Chicago City Center Hotel and other downtown locations for approximately $25/person from Ohare and $20/person from Midway. For more information please go to www.airportexpress.com.

 

Public Transportation: The “El,” Chicago’s elevated train system, provides service directly from O’Hare and Midway to downtown Chicago.  Trains from O’Hare run approximately every 5-10 minutes during rush hours and every 30 minutes at night.  Trains from Midway run from 5:20 am – 11:30 pm daily, every 20 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at machines at each station, cash only. Fare is $2.00 per trip.  Transfers between train lines are free; transfers to buses cost $0.25 each.  To see maps, plan trips, and learn more about the Chicago Transit Authority, go to www.transitchicago.com.

 

Taxis:  Taxis are abundant in the downtown areas of the city and at each airport. 

 

Transportation from O’Hare International Airport

 

To the Cultural Center

Suggested: Take the El Blue Line from the O’Hare station inside the airport terminal to the Clark/Lake stop.  Exit the station and go 2 blocks south on Clark Street to Washington Street.  At Washington, go east 4 blocks.  The Cultural Center is at the corner of Washington and Michigan Avenue, 78 E. Washington Street. Estimated time: 1 hour.

Alternate: Take the El Blue Line from the O’Hare station to the Clark/Lake stop.  Transfer to either the Pink or Orange line and get off 2 stops away at the Randolph/Wabash stop.  Exit the station and go 1 block south on Wabash Street to Washington Street.  At Washington, go east 1 block.  The Cultural Center is at the corner of Washington and Michigan Avenue, 78 E. Washington. Estimated time: 1 hour.

 

Taxis

Cost is $40-$50, depending on traffic. Extra fees include $0.50 per additional person plus a $1.50 airport taxi tax.  78 E. Washington. Estimated time: 45 minutes.

 

To the Chicago City Centre Hotel

Public Transportation

Suggested: Take Blue line train to Washington/Dearborn Station which is about 13 blocks from the hotel (a 15-minute walk), located at the intersection of Columbus Street and Ohio Street. A cab from the Washington/Dearborn station to the hotel is approximately $7.00.  The City Centre Hotel is 300 E. Ohio. Estimated time: 1 hour.

 

Alternate: Take Blue line train to Grand station.  Get on the Eastbound #65 bus at the station.  Take the bus to the intersection of Columbus and Ohio.  The City Centre Hotel is 300 E. Ohio. Estimated time: 1 hour.

 

Taxis

Cost is $40-$50, depending on traffic. Extra fees include $0.50 per additional person plus a $1.50 airport taxi tax.  300 E. Ohio. Estimated time: 45 minutes.

 

To the Hostelling International youth hostel

Public Transportation

Suggested: Take Blue line train to LaSalle station.  Exit the station and go 4 blocks east on Congress Parkway.  The Hostelling International center is on the corner of Congress and Wabash, 24 E. Congress. Estimated time: 1 hour.

 

Taxis

Cost is $40-$50, depending on traffic. Extra fees include $0.50 per additional person plus a $1.50 airport taxi tax.Tell the taxi driver you are going to downtown Chicago, the Chicago Hostel at Congress and Wabash, near the Harold Washington Chicago Public Library. 24 East Congress. Estimated time: 45 minutes.

 

Transportation from Midway Airport

 

To the Cultural Center

Public Transportation:

Suggested: Take the El Orange Line  from the Midway station to the Randolph/Wabash stop.  Exit the station onto either Randolph or Washington Streets walk east one block.   The Cultural Center address is 78 E. Washington.  There is also an entrance on Randolph.  Estimated time: 25 minutes.

 

To the Chicago City Centre Hotel

Public Transportation:

Suggested: Take Orange Line to Randolph/Wabash Station, which is about 10 blocks away (a 15-minute walk) from the hotel, located at the intersection of Columbus Street and Ohio Street. A cab from the Randolph/Wabash station to the hotel is approximately $7.00. 300 E. Ohio. Estimated time: 40 minutes.

 

Alternate: Take Orange Line to Clark/Lake stop.  Walk 1 block north to the corner of Clark and Wacker Drive.  Get on the #136 bus going east.  Get off at the intersection of Upper Wacker and Upper Columbus.  Walk north on Columbus until the intersection with Ohio Street.  The City Centre Hotel is at 300 E. Ohio St.  Estimated time: 1 hour.

 

Taxis

Cost is $30-40, depending on traffic.  Extra fees include $0.50 per additional person plus a $1.50 airport taxi tax. 300 E. Ohio St.  Estimated time: 30 minutes.
