Pluralism in the Real World: Project Assignment
An interview assignment that focuses on religious diversity.
In 2015, Dr. Suzanne Henderson participated in a Teaching Interfaith Understanding faculty development seminar, run in partnership between the Council of Independent Colleges and Interfaith Interfaith America, and generously funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. For information on future seminars, and to access more resources created by seminar alumni, visit The Council of Independent Colleges.
The following assignment was developed by Dr. Suzanne Watts Henderson for use in her “Religion in a Global Context Course” course at Queens University of Charlotte (Charlotte, NC) to help students engage with interfaith themes. Students are expected to read academic texts about diverse religious traditions, visit places of worship, and submit journal entries throughout the course. In this particular assignment, students conduct interviews within a social network of their choice about the relevance or importance of religious diversity.
